Korean Company Supplies Brand-Name Golf Balls Worldwide
SEOUL, Korea and LOS ALTOS, Calif., March 31 /PRNewswire/
-- Fantom Co. LTD and RadarGolf Inc. announced today an
agreement in which Fantom has become a pre-qualified worldwide
source for manufacturing golf balls that incorporate the
RadarGolf "tag" inside. Launched in October 2003,
RadarGolf has developed a U.S. Golf Association-conforming
golf ball that contains a radio-frequency tag. When used
with the RadarGolf handheld device, golfers may locate
lost balls within seconds and avoid penalty strokes and
game delays.
Under the RadarGolf agreement, golf balls manufactured
by Fantom can be sold worldwide using the brand name of
any golf-industry or sports-equipment supplier that purchases
a license from RadarGolf. According to RadarGolf CEO Steve
Harari, "Our product offers the leading golf-ball and
golf-equipment suppliers a means to truly differentiate
their product from other brands and win market share from
competitors." A Darrell Survey study conducted in July
2003 concluded that over 44 percent of golfers of all handicaps
would be interested in trying a findable version of their
favorite model ball.
With state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in both
Korea and China, Fantom Co. is a world-recognized manufacturer
of high-performance golf balls. The company supplies golf
balls to specification for leading worldwide golf ball brands
as well as marketing balls under the Fantom brand. Fantom
subjects designs to rigorous performance and quality-assurance
testing. Fantom's CEO Yang Hwan Park said, "The RadarGolf product is a very innovative one that will quickly
develop a loyal base of golfers who see the benefits for
their game. We are very pleased that Fantom and RadarGolf
have agreed to work together to manufacture the Radar ball."
The RadarGolf tag can be included in any current-model
golf ball without affecting the performance or feel that
the golfer experiences. Market data suggests that by minimizing
lost ball penalties, a golfer using the RadarGolf system
will improve per-round scores by an average of two to four
strokes. Golf course operators and manufacturers also stand
to gain from a faster pace of play and more total rounds
played.
