Chip tracks golf balls
Detroit Free Press
August 17, 2004
Lost balls spoiled many a round of golf for Chris Savarese,
until the former software executive decided to do something
about it. His new handheld gadget, called RadarGolf, helps
players find balls embedded with radio frequency identification
chips. These emit a radio signal that can be tracked with
a scanner.
Lose a ball somewhere in the rough? Just whip out the RadarGolf scanner and send a radio signal to the chip-equipped
ball, which responds by beaming signals back. A screen on
the scanner directs golfers toward the ball.
If golfers hit into water or down canyons, they're still
out of luck.
RadarGolf costs $249 for a ball-finder scanner and the
first dozen balls, and then $39 for each additional dozen.
